NEED
- Many guests will be visiting the restaurant at different times of the day. It is very important to know, how to take a food order.
STANDARD – How to Take a Food Order
- Prepare order pad before approaching guests.
- Draw out table plan and write out table number.
- Ensure that the table number is correct.
- Approach guest, greet and ask if guest is ready to place his/ her orders. Say, “Good morning / Good afternoon / Good evening (name of guest if known). Are you ready to place your orders?
Suppose, guest has menu already, “Would you need more time with your menu?” Usually, the answer is “No“, and then you say, “May I…..” Should the guest need more time, simply say, “No problem, Mr…., I’ll be back in 5 minutes again?“ - Tone of voice should be clear and friendly
- Give suggestions to guest when necessary.
- Be polite and knowledgeable.
- Take down the orders systematically as per table plan. See seat number.
- Orders must be clearly written.
- Check for doneness or any other special requests.
- Any special requests must be indicated.
- Repeat the food orders to the guest to ensure that the orders are correct
- Repeat slowly and clearly
- Let guest know the estimated time in which the orders will be ready if there are any expected delays.
- Do not leave the menus anywhere.
- Thank guest and collect the menu.
- Place menus back on the right place.
- Excuse yourself from the table.
